Chapter 17 Courage
".....I'm in a forest?"I questioned out loud after I entered the shrine and it seemed I was sent to a forest that I've never seen or learned about before. The trees weren't just green in this forest, it was red, purple, blue...it had all sorts of colors. I am assuming that this was part of the trial so, I walked a great lengths, seeing a few demons and whatnot attack me and such, until I got to a certain side of the road where there was only two ways to go and met two people: a monk and a mage. Both claimed to be honorable men, but while the Monk had the look of respectability and honor, the Mage was ragged and dirty, and seemed quite untrusting. The Monk said that the road to the second trial was to the left, but the Mage said that he was wrong, it was the one to the right. Both argued over who was right and who was wrong, cussing and yelling at each other, and seemed ready to fight, until I stopped them and I said that I already figured out which way to go.
"You have???!" Yelled the mage, " Then you have figured out that this cheat was lying all over your face!!!"
"Sorry, you smelly mage," the Monk responded. " But she doesn't believe in raggedy old skeletons incapable of even doing a simple a magic trick! I mean seriously, are you even a mage?!?!" After he said that, the Mage was ready to jump him, but I again intervented, saying,
"Stop! I made my decision...and stop with the insults...they're not going to exactly help either one of you. " So they looked at me intently, each thinking that they were in the right, but of course there was a lier.." So I figured it out. It was pretty easy because I can peer into each of you guys and sense who was wrong: which is both of you!!!" They soon looked stunned and shocked as their little ruse failed them.
"Damn, brother, she figured it out!" Yelled the Monk in scorn.
"H-hey, don't look at me, who knew she could see right through us, literally???"The Mage responded. Then after a small quarrel they both looked at me, and the Monk said,
"Good job, young girl....you've figured it out!"
"Unfortunately, you may now go to the second trial!" The Mage said.
" All right...." I responded, but I felt that this trial was far too easy: It couldn't be over now, could it?
"AFTER YOU TRY AND FIGURE THIS OUT!!!" A sigh was all I could muster as they transformed into some kind of deformed monster: its arms were flailing, its legs where on the top of its head, its tail was used as a foot...it was very disturbing to see. Then they spewed flares out of their mouths in bunches all around the forest, but oddly enough not burning it, and the next thing I knew I took a shot to the side, and I hit a nearby tree hard. After I got up, the creature disappeared, and I narrowly dodged it emerging from the ground. I then chanted a spell, and a whole light wave covered up the ground, which in turn flushed out that beast, and with a powerful light wave from my fist, I destroyed the creature, and in turn revealed the door to the second trial. That was pretty challenging, but its probably going to get a lot tougher from here on in....
