• Chapter 7 Courage

  We made it to Syria in about two day’s time after Shade told us the happenings around Bethumet. From Fear to this mysterious figure to this war, I wonder how anything good is going to happen to Bethumet....but I must be strong and remember that there's always a chance, as long as its full power. My master told me that a long ago...anyways, as soon as we entered the Syrian Castle we was immediately greeted by King Sorentine, who seemed glad that we would be able to help him in his time of need, and he got his servants to escort us to our rooms. After noon began we met the King again, along with Syria's Famed Four Wings: Commander Thomas, a Paladin of the sword, Jeannine, a Sage of Fire and Thunder Magic, Nichols, a feared General who uses Axes, and Eisen, another Paladin, but he can use the Axe and the Sword, in his main hall to discuss why this war happened and what they plan on doing. Sorentine began by telling us how this war started: A few days ago, there was seemingly a small rumor amongst the people that Kenion was going to attack one of Syria's main fortresses near the border of Syria-Montana. This rumor didn't seem likely considering that Sorentine and King Nemida of Kenion were friends for almost 20 years and while they haven't talked in about a week, there shouldn't be nothing that should break that friendship so simply, considering that Syria's fortress was far superior in numbers than Kenion's soldiers, and considering that rumors were commonplace for weeks, this didn't seem much ado of anything...until they did attack. And WON. They crushed most of the units in the fortress despite inferior numbers, and once Kenion's king sent a letter to Sorentine declaring war, he had no choice but to agree to these terms.

   

  "So..." I questioned, "What can we do that can help you?" While Thgil does have a lot of resources, we don't have the kind of soldiers that could fight in a war, and I'm basically the only one who has any knowledge of fighting battles in Thgil.

   

  "Young Courage," King Sorentine said, "We understand your prowess training under Shade. He believes that you're capable of doing good in this war." So I left it at that, and now we decided to talk about how to gain the advantage against Kenion. Unfortunately, I'm not much for strategizing, so I don't think you guys would either....

   

  Later, about nighttime, I talked to a few of Syria's Four Wings, Jeannine and Thomas, along with two newcomers Adrian and Fayre. Fayre intrigued me a bit. He looks to be a young kid, yet he sounds like he an experienced adult. He's also ten years younger than his friend, Adrian, which made me believe that the kid was special. And Thomas somewhat confirmed it as he joked with Fayre,

   

  "How the hell can you be a soldier and use magic?!!?! I call that having wayyyyy too much time on your hands!" That's extremely rare, as most knights aren't willing to pick up a tome and read it, but rather use a weapon to get their point across to an enemy, but this kid seems willing to diversify himself....anyways, we all talked for a while and soon after that we left to our rooms. Well, I thought I was going to my room by myself, but Fayre seemed to have other ideas.

   

  "Wait, Miss Courage, please wait!" I stopped and said to him,

   

  "You don't have to be informal...just call me Courage, ok kid? So what's up?"

   

  "Can you be my master????" I was taken aback a bit.

   

  "M-master!?!? Now that's kinda sudden." He then explained that he got information about me from Thomas before I showed up to talk to them, and since his Syrian training days are over, he needs something to do after this war. I told him that I need to know more about him in order to make a decision, and his story was remarkable: he told me how his parents were working extremely hard for them at a young age, how he joined the Syrian knights, learning magic, etc, and this conversation seemed to last for hours, but it was only 30 minutes. After that, I gave a decision. "All right then, I will train you....but two conditions must be met...one, you have to survive this war, because I can't train dead people. Then two, you must be prepared for the same kind of training that my master gave me for 20 years...you think you're up to it?!?" He responded childishly with a nod, and I decided that it might be good to train him. After that, he went back the other way, and I walked my way knowing that I can finally see what Shade had to go through training me....

   

  "You loser, saying that you're gonna take a kid under your wing- you got a lot of work to do." Shade said jokingly as he stepped in front of me.

   

  "Hello master. Now you have to bother me as we-"

   

  "Now look Courage, I know you're thinking that in the back of my mind I'm utterly offended by you taking someone under your wing right in front of me. Well you know what? You're right, I am utterly offended!!!!" He said while giving me another one of his suicidal squeezes.

   

  "Ok, then, but now I have a question, master, did you like training me?

  "Hmmm....did I like training you....did I like-no, no not really. OWW!"I slapped him in the back of the head. "Man, that's so mean!!!"

   

  "Master, you're far more cruel than I am!"

   

  "Anyways, I have to discuss something with you. Might as well go into your comfortable room, MASTER! HAHAHAHA...." What a loser. I can't believe he was my master...A-Anyways, we went into my room and we both sat down on a huge, king size like bed. “Mannnn.....this feels comfortable, "Shade said.”Oh, well, my queen size will do!"

   

  ".....master....."

   

  "Oh, sorry Courage, I know you want to get some sleep, however I have a change of plans for you: you will not be entering this war."

   

  "What?!?! Why not??!!"

   

  "You have a better job to do, and that's to figure out Fear's game....as you know, a mountain appeared and I can feel that demon probably is up there. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anyone can just go up there. I want you to follow him for now. Don't attack him unless he's hurting an innocent, ok?"

   

  "...Master, did you have this planned for me even thoug-"

   

  "No, not really, but I remembered that the Red Orb of Bethumet was taken for a reason, and if he takes the next orb, then I know once thing: it can't be good. Anyways, I don't want you to fight him unless necessary but either way just confirm what I'm guessing and get back here as soon as possible, ok?"

   

  "Ok master, but-"

   

  “Don’t worry about Fayre, because I got his back, don't worry about it, ok?" He then smiled and rubbed my cheek, “Because I have to see him call you MASTER ok? That's will be a moment of pure bliss-AAAHH!!!" I slapped him at the back of his head again. "I hate you...." he responded sheepishly. So the next day came, and early in the morning, I set out towards where Fear was....
