  • Chapter 2 Courage

"W-what-what?!?!?! WHAT DO YOU WANT?!?!?!" The commander shouted as he fell back to the ground with one of the worst looks I could ever see out of a human.

"Commander, my name is Courage,” I said with a bit of concern, "And I have come to find out what just happened here. We were informed three hours ago by one of our messengers who intended to send an invitation for a party at the end of this week that most of Diruch was destroyed, and most of our soldiers including me came to see if we could find survivors."

“Did you find out if everyone else survived??!"

    ".....You were the only one....."

"WHAT?!?!? But my soldiers, the people-"

“Were incapable of mentally surviving whatever was ailing them...we were too late in saving them..." He looked very distraught and mentally ill at the same time then said,

    "That bastard.....Fear...."

"Fear?" I wondered who that was.

"THAT... was the blackheart who did this to us: just prancing around our poor town and doing whatever he felt he wanted to do....and he succeeded..." He then spitted out confusing words that I could not understand or translate, if those were supposed to have been translated in the first place. “I guess I haven’t fully recovered yet...." So he began to talk slowly, first by saying his name, Rando then explained that almost at the start of the afternoon, he got word that some creature appeared at the front of the main gate, walking slowly towards the Mayor’s Mansion. The only thing the Mayor had other than his money was the Red Orb of Bethumet, which meant that they had to get the Mayor out of the town quickly, and to somewhere safe. His troops tried to protect the orb, but failed miserably in doing so as, "He tossed us around the field like fish, " Rando said, and obviously the orb was not there anymore, so he succeeded in that goal.

"Why didn’t you take the orb?" I questioned, but he pointed out,

"The Mayor told us one day that he lost one of his cousins because he laid his hands on the orb. He melted as soon as he touched it. There was no place to take it. I think only a special few can actually hold it without much of a fuss." I then asked him to describe who Fear was, but he was adamant in shying away from the question, but I was too determined to get an answer from him.

"Please, be a warrior and just tell me who is this guy! I need to know! Lives depend on it!!!!"

"......Truth be told.....I don’t think anybody can beat him...but I’ll tell you what I saw: He’s a demon who has black wings, has on black pants and coat, and black hair, looks pretty pale, has a red eye, part of his hair blocked the other eye...but he’s extremely powerful. We may have only 110 soldiers, but they weren’t exactly slouches, but he made us look like that...and worse...” He then added, "Still, it’s rare in our history that there’s a demon with black or white wings. I remember reading about demons back in my youth when I was training to become a knight, and the demons with those types of wings were considered demigods."

    "DEMIGODS!?!?! Don’t spit out gibberish!"

"Gibberish or not, I know one thing....I can’t face him..."

    “But-"

“No buts....you can get killed by him if you want...I’m just going to go hide somewhere...."As soon he said those last few words, I ordered the doctors to come and attend to him. I couldn’t stand what he just said, or believe it. He’s supposed to be one of Diruch’s most heralded commanders, yet I see him cowering before that beast....who is this Fear? Eventually I’ll find out....

Since I’m going to be the one to put him out of his misery....
